The oiled oak lid sits loosely enough to scoop right in but looks so tidy on the table that I just leave it out now. It's genuinely a pretty little thing, even when it's empty.

Bought this to replace the ugly plastic salt box I'd had for years, and it's genuinely pretty enough to leave on the table between meals. The loose oak lid lifts off easily with one hand while I'm cooking, which sounds minor but matters when you're mid-stir.
